Immer auf der Suche nach brauchbaren Ideen ist das Motto von www.ukraina.at.

So viele gute (digitale)  Karten über die Ukraine für (Pocket) PC´s gibt es ja nicht.
Seit einigen Wochen kann man mit TomTom 5 "grenzenlos" durch Europa und angeblich sogar in die Ukraine reisen. Hier sei ein neues Produkt, die "CarteBlanche Ukraine" für Garmin kurz vorgestellt:

Der Preis: Zwischen ca. 129 - 139.- Euro´s.

Die Vorteile lt. Hersteller des Produkts:

* Abdeckung von Ukraine plus detaillierte Straßendaten der sechs Städte:
Kiew, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovs´k, Donets´k, Odesa und L´viv

* Alle kyrillischen Buchstaben sind in lateinische Buchstaben übersetzt

* Enthaltene Points of Interest für z.B. Flughafen, Bahnhof, Hafen, Tankstelle, Restaurant, Parken, Museen, Theater, Krankenhaus, Schule, Gewässer, Park usw.

* Suchoption für Städte und Straßen

Technische Details:
Kartenvolumen 43,3 MB gesamt, aufgeteilt auf 54 Kacheln; Kachelgröße 317 KB - 1,6 MB. Die "Kacheln" können in jedes Garmin GPS-Gerät geladen werden, das fähig ist, Karten darzustellen und mindestens 8 MB Kartenspeicher bereitstellt.

Nachteile: (kurze Prüfung durch GPS - Experte Karl Königer)

Die Karte ("CarteBlanche Ukraine" für Garmin) ist sicher das Genaueste was es gibt. Einziger Nachteil ist, dass sie nicht routingfähig ist - d.h. keine Sprachansagen, man sieht also nur die aktuelle Position auf dem Garmingerät.

Hier die Beantwortung meiner Anfrage bzgl. "CarteBlanche Ukraine" für Garmin: (e)

Hi Gerhard,

I really appreciate your intention to introduce our CarteBlanche Ukraine mapping product to the subscribers of your mailing list. Here is some information about it.

A. Price. The recommended retail price of CarteBlanche Ukraine CD in Europe is 129 EUR including VAT (Mwst). It is currently available on CD from our German and Polish distributors (please see www.garmin.de/MapSource-Ukraine.php and 
www.garmin.pl/index.php?mod=prod&act=detail&cID=25&pID=719) and as an 
Internet download from Share-It service at https://secure.shareit.com/shareit/product.html?productid=300025467. As far as I can see there is at least one retail shop that sell our map in Austria: http://www.dream-shop.at/product_info.php?products_id=593&page=3. We also work on setting up the distributors in Czech Republic, Great Britain and South Africa.

B. Hardware - all Garmin GPS that support map uploading, except old models GPS III+ and GPS 12 MAP. The list of compatible models includes GPSMAP 60/60C/60CS, GPSMAP 76/76C/76S/76CS, GPSMAP 176/176C, GPSMAP 276C, GPSMAP 196, GPSMAP 295, GPSMAP 296, StreetPilot, StreetPilot ColorMap, StreetPilot III, StreetPilot 2610/2650, StreetPilot c320, iQue 3200/3600, iQue M5,  Quest, GPS V, eMap, eTrex Legend/LegendC/Vista/VistaC, Rino 120/130 and some other models.

C. Advantages:
1. Platform. Garmin GPS (www.garmin.com) are extremely popular all over the world because of their great functionality, innovative solutions, good quality, affordable price and excellent cartography available from Garmin for rich territories like US/Canada, Western Europe, Australia, Middle East, South Africa. Additionally, there are maps of many other countries, including our map of Ukraine, available from the third parties. PDA enthusiasts can use CarteBlanche Ukraine map on Garmin iQue 3200/3600 (Palm), Garmin iQue M5 (PocketPC) or on other brands' Pocket PC devices with Garmin cfQue 1620 Compact Flash GPS module.
2. Reasonable price. Some of our competitors' maps of Ukraine for PDAs with the same coverage tend to be several times more expensive than CarteBlanche Ukraine product.
3. Good availability to our customers all over the world either on CD from our distributors or via the Internet.
4. Our map can be used both on PC in MapSource program and in Garmin GPS  device.
5. General coverage 1:200000 map of Ukraine and detailed 1:10000 city maps of biggest Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovs'k, Donets'k, Odesa and L'viv are seamlessly integrated in one product. With our map in your GPS you can drive across the whole country including big cities mentioned above without having to switch between different maps.
6. Our map contains 7 levels to provide optimal detail when displayed at different scales both in GPS and on PC.
7. While the size of the installed map is 43 MB, it is splitted to 54 fragments ranging from 300 KB to 1.6 MB so one can create a proper mapset and load to GPS only areas the he or she really needs. This is especially useful to long distance travellers and owners of older models with small amount of memory available.
8. CarteBlanche Ukraine map can be used together with maps of other countries.
9. Alternative/old road and street names are supported. For example, L'viv - Kyiv road have a European (international) name E40 and domestic name M06. You can 'Find by Name' this road by both names. Likewise one of the  central streets of Kyiv has an old name "Chevonoarmiis'ka" and a new one  "Velyka Vasyl'kivs'ka" and you can find it by any of these names as well.
10. The map contains more than 12000 points of interest (POIs) incliding food and drink, lodging, shopping, transportation, petrol stations, border crossings, landmarks, churches, museums, cinemas, theatres, pharmacies,  hospitals and more. Some POIs like restaurants, hotels, railway stations are supplied with contact information such as address, zip code and phone number.
11. Search by name of cities/POIs/streets/roads/intersections is realised across the whole map. You can also narrow area of search by specifing region (oblast') and/or district (raion).

D. Disadvatages:
1. Lack of autorouting and address search functions. This is planned to be added in the future versions of our product with the option for existing customers to upgrade to newer version for a fraction of its cost.

Question: 
Is it possible to use Garmin Street Pilot C 320 Auto - Navigationssystem ? 

Hi Gerhard! It is nice to hear from you again. There are at least 2 customers using our CarteBlanche Ukraine product on Garmin StreetPilot c320 - one in Ukraine and one in Germany. I do not haveany complaints from them. The only issue is that this unit is designed primarily for use with autoroutable maps and for some reasons it does not display non-autoroutable maps when you load to it only them
(non-autoroutable maps). The solution is to load non-autoroutable maps with
at least one small piece of autoroutable map. Then map displaying is okay. Another general advice is that if the customer runs the CD that comes with StreetPilot c320 and do not have MapSource program installed on this PC before, he (she) gets a stripped version of MapSource that works basically as a map loader. To enjoy full functionality of MapSource and the maps installed on the PC one can install a free MapSource update from Garmin's website.
